- HISTORY ASPECTS:
- The Hawaiian 717-200, bearing the registration N491HA, has a storied history that is closely tied to the vibrant and welcoming spirit of the Aloha State. This aircraft was a part of the Hawaiian Airlines fleet, an airline renowned for its exceptional service and commitment to providing passengers with a taste of the Hawaiian culture from the moment they stepped on board. The 717-200 was a perfect fit for Hawaiian’s inter-island routes, allowing travelers to hop between the stunning Hawaiian Islands with ease and comfort.
- The Boeing 717 is an American five-abreast single-aisle airliner produced by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. The twin-engine airliner was developed for the 100-seat market and originally marketed by McDonnell Douglas in the early 1990s as the MD-95 until the company merged with Boeing in August 1997. It was a shortened derivative of McDonnell Douglas’ successful airliner, the MD-80, and part of the company’s broader DC-9 family. Capable of seating up to 134 passengers, the 717 has a design range of 2,060 nautical miles [nmi] (3,820 km; 2,370 mi). It is powered by two Rolls-Royce BR715 turbofan engines mounted at the rear of the fuselage. The first order for the airliner was placed with McDonnell Douglas in October 1995 by ValuJet Airlines (later AirTran Airways). With the 1997 merger taking place prior to production, the airliner entered service in 1999 as the Boeing 717. Production of the type ceased in May 2006 after 155 were delivered. As of June 2022, 103 Boeing 717 airliners remain in service and have recorded zero fatalities and no hull losses.
- Hawaiian Airlines is the largest operator of commercial flights to and from the U.S. state of Hawaii. It is the tenth-largest commercial airline in the United States, and is based at Honolulu, Hawaii. The airline operates its main hub at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport on the island of Oʻahu and a secondary hub out of Kahului Airport on the island of Maui. The airline also maintained a crew base at Los Angeles International Airport. Hawaiian Airlines operates flights to Asia, American Samoa, Australia, French Polynesia, Hawaii, New Zealand, and the United States mainland. Hawaiian Airlines is owned by Hawaiian Holdings, Inc. of which Peter R. Ingram is the current president and chief executive officer.
- With its distinctive livery featuring the beautiful Hawaiian floral design, N491HA became a familiar sight in the skies over Hawaii. This aircraft played a crucial role in connecting the people of Hawaii and ensuring that they had access to convenient and reliable air travel options. Whether passengers were commuting between islands for work, visiting family and friends, or embarking on a tropical vacation, the Hawaiian 717-200 was there to provide a comfortable and enjoyable journey.
- Now, aviation enthusiasts and collectors can celebrate the legacy of this iconic aircraft with a 1:200 scale model. Whether you have a deep love for aviation or simply appreciate the allure of Hawaii, this model is a must-have addition to your collection, allowing you to bring a piece of the Aloha State’s aviation history into your home.
